When normal sounds become annoyingMisophonia is an extremely strong dislike of normal sounds. The degree of reaction is not based on the properties of the sound, such as loudness and pitch, but by past experiences with certain sounds and overall state of mind. Misophonia is often confused with Phonophobia. For instance, some people fear that a relatively quiet sound can actually damage their hearing and therefore must be avoided. When a strong fear is evoked by sound, a person may be considered phonophobic. |
